LUANG PRABANG, LAOS PT.3

Enjoying our time in Laos, the weather is really perfect and it's nice to be back in this friendly city. We have been eating noodle soup, desserts, fresh fruit, and fruit juices. Citrus (varietal with green rinds) are in season right now and very good. Kind of tart but a more complex flavor. The Luang Prabang pork sausage we’ve had is also really good and our Airbnb host took us to a place to grab banh cuon, one of our favorite dishes. There are food places that opened up in our village here, so we can find prepared food close by and avoid walking/biking the 2.5ish miles into town. Biking and walking are nice, but sometimes it takes a lot out of the day if we have work to do, so the options close to home are nice. But yes, most days here so far we’ve biked or walked about 5-6 miles round trip.

We also successfully made some pork at home which turned out well. The quality of the pork here is good, beef and chicken are a little tougher and more expensive. We also ate these fried coconut rice balls that have coconut on the outside and a tiny piece of banana on the inside. Really good - kind of reminiscent of a donut. The mornings and evenings cool down nicely, although midday it is about 90. Biking into town early to hit the markets and soup stalls is best since it’s not as sunny and also less crowded with cars at that time. We found the supermarket in town today and grabbed some stuff for the kitchen here at the house. They really have a lot there, but some of the imported stuff is pretty expensive. There are no turkeys here, but we might make or find some duck later this week.

We’ve been thinking of and starting to plan more of 2020. Excited to be getting to Tokyo, Delhi, Jaipur, and Istanbul and also really looking forward to Greece again in May.
